Boots Back Home was created for the wild-haired, wide-eyed, and worn-out defence partners navigating relocations, deployments, parenting, and trying to stay human through it all. It’s for the Defence spouse holding it all together (barely), wondering how to keep earning, parenting, and showing up for everyone, without completely losing themselves in the process.
What started as a brain-dump in the messy middle of Defence life has grown into a space for connection, practical support, and shared stories, for anyone who’s ever felt a bit lost, a bit tired, and very much in it.
I’ve been living the ‘military life’ since 2014 – first with my husband in the Police Force, and now with him serving in the RAAF. Along the way, I’ve built a business from scratch, parented solo through night shifts and deployments, and found ways to make life feel simpler – even when it’s anything but.
Meet Amber: The Heart Behind Boots Back Home
I’m Amber – Defence partner, boy mum, business owner, and *professional coffee drinker.
Supporting my husband through his transition from Police Officer to RAAF member taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building a life that feels like yours – even when nothing around you is.
Because I know you’re probably supporting everyone else too… but still trying to find space for yourself.
I run a Virtual Support Consulting business, write from the heart here at Boots Back Home, and unapologetically collect fun earrings and good humans.
I believe in honesty over hustle, self-kindness over shame, and finding joy in the smallest moments – cloud watching, picnic blankets, and long chats about nothing and everything.
