Boots Back Home was created for the wild-haired, wide-eyed, and worn-out defence partners navigating relocations, deployments, parenting, and trying to stay human through it all.
What started as a place to brain-dump the messy middle of military life has become a space for connection, practical support, and shared stories – for anyone who’s ever felt a bit lost, a bit tired, and very much in it.
I’ve been living the ‘posted life’ since 2014 – first with my husband in the Police Force, and now with him serving in the RAAF. Along the way, I’ve built a business from scratch, parented solo through night shifts and deployments, and found ways to make life feel simpler – even when it’s anything but.

I’m Amber – defence partner, boy mum, business owner, and professional coffee drinker.
Supporting my husband through his transition from police officer to RAAF member has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of building a life that feels like yours – even when everything around you is out of your control.
I run a virtual business (Operation Amber), write from the heart here at Boots Back Home, and recently launched Operation Support – a directory and support space for admin professionals and the business owners who need them.
I believe in honesty over hustle, self-kindness over shame, and finding joy in the smallest moments – cloud watching, picnic blankets, and long chats about nothing and everything.
